Accessibility is good at all three entrances to the national park – the main entrance, Vitsand and Ösjönäs – as well as at the rest area at Metesjön.
At Vitsand, there is a 100‑metre ramp that leads out onto a headland in the lake Stora Trehörningen. At the main entrance, there is a 60‑metre ramp that leads to a viewpoint overlooking Östgötaviken in Stora Trehörningen.
The rest area at Metesjön is accessible. From the designated parking space for visitors with reduced mobility by the road, a hard‑surfaced gravel path of about 100 metres leads to the rest area.
On the hard‑surfaced rest areas located in different parts of the park, there are accessible picnic tables and fire pits.
Seasons in Tiveden National Park
In spring, you can enjoy the fresh green colours and the rich birdlife. With a bit of luck, you may encounter a capercaillie in its mating display on an early summer morning.
In summer, you can combine hiking over sun‑warmed pine bedrock with refreshing swims in Trehörningen from Vitsand’s long sandy beach. You can also find cool shade among the boulders and caves deep in the crevice valleys.
An autumn trip in October offers colourful deciduous trees and far‑reaching views in the clear air. In winter, Tiveden is more difficult to reach, but you can still admire the impressive ice formations in Stigmanspasset, or hike with boots or snowshoes through the quiet, glittering forest.
