Hiking trails

There are more than 34 kilometres of marked hiking trails in Tiveden National Park. The trails take you down into deep crevices and up onto lichen‑covered rock ridges. Many of the trails are hilly and can be challenging to hike.

Trollkyrkorundan

Length: 4.6 km
Time: approx. 3 hours
Trail marking: Red

Trollkyrkorundan is a partly demanding trail through varied terrain. It starts and ends at the national park’s main entrance. The trail leads through old‑growth forest, across barren rock and through wetter depressions. Along the trail, numbered stations provide information.

Stenkällerundan

Length: 2.2 km
Time: approx. 1.5 hours
Trail marking: Yellow

Stenkällerundan starts and finishes at the main entrance and is the most popular trail in the national park. It takes you into dramatic old‑growth forest shaped by past wildfires, and to large boulders left behind by the inland ice.
A connecting trail of about 1.5 km leads from Stenkällerundan to the bathing area at Vitsand.

Tärnkullerundan

Length: 1.3 km
Time: approx. 1 hour
Trail marking: Orange

Tärnkullerundan is a short but demanding trail. It starts and ends at Vitsand and takes you up to Tärnekullen, right next to the long sandy beach of Lake Stora Trehörningen. The trail passes through an area of boulders and block caves known as Vitsandsgrottorna.
Please note that there are steep sections and drop‑offs along much of the trail.

Trehörningsrundan

Length: 9.5 km
Time: 4–5 hours
Trail marking: Purple

Trehörningsrundan is Tiveden’s longest trail and takes you around the entire Lake Stora Trehörningen. Along this route, you can experience most of the national park’s habitats.
The trail passes all the park’s entrances and is varied and at times demanding.

Oxögabergsrundan

Length: 6.7 km
Time: approx. 4 hours
Trail marking: Blue

Oxögabergsrundan leads you through Tiveden’s old forests, from moss‑covered, damp spruce woodlands and marshy valleys to classic capercaillie forest and rocky heathland.
The most demanding section is between the main entrance and Stigmanspasset.
There is a connecting trail to Bergslagsleden in the east.

Mellannäsrundan

Length: 1.9 km
Time: approx. 1.5 hours
Trail marking: Green

Mellannäsrundan is the easiest trail in the national park. It winds through gently undulating coniferous forest with patches of wetter mire. At Mellannäsudden, a gently rolling gravel ridge, you can see clear remains from historic charcoal and tar production used in local ironworks.

Junker jägarerundan

Length: 2.8 km
Time: approx. 1.5 hours
Trail marking: White

Junker jägarerundan starts at Vitsand and is partly demanding. Junker Jägares sten is an impressive boulder carried here by the inland ice around 10,000 years ago.
The trail leads you through sparse, old pine forest and also through wetter areas where different moss species dominate and the vegetation changes noticeably.

Vitsandsrundan

Length: 1 km
Time: approx. 30 minutes
Trail marking: Black

The shortest trail in the national park gives you a good sense of what is typical of Tiveden. It leads you through boulder fields and sparse pine forest growing on rocky ground.
Please note that Vitsandsrundan is not yet marked, but follows parts of existing paths.
From Tärnkullerundan (orange), turn right at Vitsandsgrottorna. On the opposite side of the road, you will find Junker jägarerundan (white), which leads south to the Vitsand entrance.

Stigmansrundan

Length: 4.2 km
Time: approx. 3 hours
Trail marking: Grey

Stigmansrundan is a demanding trail that begins and ends at the main entrance. It takes you to Stigmanspasset, where the road through the national park passes through a narrow crevice valley with steep cliffs on both sides.
The trail also leads to the rock formation Stenkällan, the park’s most visited attraction.

Bergslagsleden

Bergslagsleden is a 280‑kilometre long-distance trail running through Örebro County. Part of the trail passes through the eastern part of Tiveden National Park.

Connecting trails link Bergslagsleden with Trollkyrkorundan.
