Seasons in Pieljekaise National Park

Pieljekaise National Park is worth a visit all year round, regardless of season.

In summer, you enter the national park by hiking from Jäckvik, Adolfström or Viejenäs. Besides the hiking, the park’s rich flora and birdlife are highlights.

An autumn hike in early September is the right time to experience the mountain birch forest and mountain heaths glowing in vivid autumn colours. The autumn leaves can sometimes remain into October, especially at higher elevations where frost and cold arrive later than in the lower areas.

In winter, the national park is best experienced on skis. Depending on your mountain and skiing experience, you can choose to go either in the coldest mid‑winter period or during the milder days of late winter when the sun begins to warm again. The ski route largely follows Kungsleden.
