Things to do
Here, you’ll find highlights of what to see and do when you visit Pieljekaise National Park.
There is a lot to discover in Sweden’s national parks. You’ll find activities and sights that suit visitors of all ages.
Whether you want to walk along a marked trail, explore unique landscapes or pause at a viewpoint for a break, the parks offer plenty of ways for you to enjoy nature – from easy walks to scenic lookouts and deeper adventures into the wilderness.
Activities and sights in the national park
If you climb the mountain peaks in Pieljekaise National Park, you can on clear days see all the way to the Norwegian mountains in the west. For example, you can climb Beljijgájse, which gave the national park its name at 1,137 metres above sea level, Báktek at 788 metres, or Vuomavarre at 874 metres.
There are two marked hiking trails running through the national park: Kungsleden and Jäckviksleden. Kungsleden runs between Jäckvik and Adolfström and is about 27 kilometres long. Jäckviksleden runs between Jäckvik and Viejenäs, south‑east of Kungsleden, and is about 22 kilometres long.
Pieljekaise also holds clear traces of the Ice Age, when Scandinavia was covered by ice. In the area you can find large boulders that were once embedded in the ice. The softly U‑shaped valley is another visible sign of the landscape shaped by glacial forces.
The national park is rich in herbaceous plants. Here you can find tall‑growing species such as brudborste, fjälltorta, nordisk stormhatt, fjällkvanne, midsommarblomster and lundstjärneblomma in bloom.
