Getting here

Here you’ll find information on how to get to Padjelanta/Badjelánnda National Park. 

Padjelanta/Badjelánnda National Park lies in a roadless mountain area in the Jokkmokk region, in Jokkmokk Municipality, Norrbotten County. If you want to visit the national park, the towns of Jokkmokk or Gällivare are good starting points.

Entrance from the south

To reach the southern parts of Padjelanta/Badjelánnda, the best starting point is Kvikkjokk/Huhttán. Buses operate between Jokkmokk and Kvikkjokk.

Entrance from the north

If you want to reach Padjelanta/Badjelánnda from the north, there are transport connections from both Gällivare and Jokkmokk.

From Gällivare, you can travel by train and then continue by bus. The bus station is located next to the train station.

From Jokkmokk, you travel by bus via Porjus, continuing along Vägen västerut (“the Western Road”) to Ritsem/Rijtjem. From Ritsem/Rijtjem, which is the final bus stop, a tour boat crosses Áhkkájávrre. After the boat trip, the hike to the national park takes between half a day and one full day.

Flights and helicopter transport

From the airports in Gällivare and Luleå, there are bus connections to and from the mountain areas. Car rental is available in the main towns.

It is also possible to travel to Padjelanta/Badjelánnda by helicopter. During summer, there is a scheduled helicopter route between Kvikkjokk/Huhttán – Stáloluokta – Ritsem/Rijtjem.

Year‑round, you can book helicopter taxi services that land outside the national park.
