Activities and sights in the national park
Stora Idgölen is the largest lake in Norra Kvill National Park. In spring, frogs and toads call in the tarn, and birds such as knipa and kricka can be seen tracing lines across the water. Later in summer, both white and yellow water lilies bloom on the lake.
In the park, you can hike the trails Lilla Idgölenrundan and Stora Idgölenrundan, both of which start at the park entrance.
Lilla Idgölenrundan takes you up to the highest point in the national park, Idhöjden, where you have magnificent views of the surrounding landscape.
Stora Idgölenrundan leads you through boulder fields, past Stora Idgölen and into the burn area. The trail passes through varied environments in the oldest part of the park and takes you past Stora Idgölen. Along the way, you will see countless trees marked by past forest fires – some of the fire‑scarred trees are nearly 400 years old.
