Staying in the park
Here you’ll find information about accommodation options in and around Haparanda Skärgård National Park.
On the island of Sandskär, camping is only allowed at the two designated tent pitches. One is located northwest of the harbour, near Kumpula, and the other is on the northern tip of the island. Both areas are marked with low wooden posts and ropes.
On the other islands in the national park, you may camp wherever you like. Outside the national park, the nearest camping area is at Haparanda Harbour in Nikkala.

Rental Cabins
On Sandskär, the County Administrative Board rents out three simple cabins. They are located a few hundred metres north of the harbour, in the small village of Kumpula. Each cabin is basic and has one room with four beds (two bunk beds). The beds have mattresses, blankets and pillows. You need to bring your own bed linen.
Each cabin has a small kitchen area equipped with a gas stove, plates, cutlery, glasses, saucepans, a frying pan and a coffee pot. There is also a small gas-powered refrigerator. Heating is provided by a wood-burning stove. Firewood, a saw and an axe are available in the woodshed next to the sauna. There is no electricity or phone coverage. You must bring your own drinking water or collect water from the well.
Remember to clean the cabin before you leave and take all rubbish home with you. There is no waste collection on the island.
Contact the County Administrative Board to book your stay in the cabins.
