At the harbour in Kumpula on the island of Sandskär, you will find picnic tables and a fire pit.
There is an open rest cabin at the harbour in Kumpula (Kumpulastugan). The cabin has benches, tables and a fireplace, and is located next to the picnic tables and firepit.
At the northern tip of Sandskär, there are three fire pits with low benches around them.
Please remember that it is a good idea to bring your own water to Sandskär. There is a well on the island, and the water is tested every year, but water shortages can occur. If a water test shows poor quality, the well may need to be closed.
Toilets and Dry Toilets
Inside the National Park
On Sandskär, about 100 metres east of the harbour in Kumpula, there is an accessible dry toilet and a double dry toilet for public use. A boardwalk leads to them. West of the harbour, closer to the tent area, a narrower boardwalk leads to another double dry toilet. There is also a double dry toilet at the northern tip of the island.
Outside the National Park
At Haparanda Harbour on the mainland, there is a toilet maintained by Bothnia Boat Club.
Fire Pits and Open Fires
You may not make a fire or use a grill anywhere on Sandskär except next to the holiday cottages or in the designated areas. However, you may use a camping stove.
There are designated public fire pits at the harbour in Kumpula and on the eastern side of the northern tip. You are welcome to bring your own firewood, or you can cut pieces from the longer logs stored in the woodsheds. Always take great care when lighting fires and follow any fire bans that may be in place.
Sauna
There is a wood-fired sauna on Sandskär that you can book. It is located near the rental cabins. Booking information is posted on the sauna building. Water for the sauna is collected from the nearby well.
