Getting here
Here you’ll find information on how to get to Haparanda Skärgård National Park.
Haparanda Skärgård National Park is located close to the Finnish border, at the northernmost end of the Bothnian Bay in Haparanda Municipality. Most visitors reach the national park by private boat. During the summer there is limited tour boat traffic to Sandskär.
Landing on Sandskär
Sandskär is the largest island in the national park. The best places to land are:
- Kumpula fishing village on the south‑western side of the island
- the sandy beach on the eastern side of the northern headland
Tour boats to Sandskär
Tour boats to Sandskär depart from Haparanda harbour in Nikkala.
Bookings for boat tours and cabin accommodation are made through the Haparanda Tourist Information Centre, which can refer you to the company responsible for boat transport and cabin rentals.
How to find the harbour
You will find the harbour via a turn‑off from E4, eleven kilometres west of Haparanda. The road is signposted towards Nikkala village, and from the E4 it is a six‑kilometre drive to the harbour at the end of the road.
