There is a lot to discover in Sweden’s national parks. You’ll find activities and sights that suit visitors of all ages.
Whether you want to walk along a marked trail, explore unique landscapes or pause at a viewpoint for a break, the parks offer plenty of ways for you to enjoy nature – from easy walks to scenic lookouts and deeper adventures into the wilderness.
Activities and sights in the national park
There are several areas in Store Mosse National Park that are perfect for birdwatching, for example Stora Gungflyet, Blådöpet, Horssjö and Häradsösjön.
Next to the main entrance there is a twelve‑metre‑high bird tower with a view over Kävsjön. In the tower there is an exhibition about Kävsjön and its wildlife and management.
In winter, eagles and other birds of prey are fed in the national park. There is an eagle hide along the gravel road between Kittlakull and Östra Rockne on the southern side of the road. The hide is located 400 metres from the feeding site, so you need to bring binoculars to be able to see well, preferably a spotting scope. You can borrow binoculars and spotting scopes at the naturum.
There are also several hiking trails in the national park. Wibecksleden starts at the main entrance and runs through mixed forest before shifting to birch swamp forest. At the end of the trail is Wibecksplatsen, a platform with benches and tables with a view over the quaking bog of Kävsjön, the wetland around the lake.
You can also hike the trail Kävsjön runt, which takes you around the whole of Kävsjön where many bird species nest.
In the park you can join a guided tour with one of the national park’s partners. It is also possible to book guided tours in the national park and in the naturum.
