Activities and sights in the national park
Sáltoluokta Mountain station is an excellent starting point for day trips around Sáltoluokta. The mountain station is run by the Swedish Tourist Association (STF) and offers a wide range of activities for all ages.
Near Sáltoluokta, a short distance from Kungsleden, lies the rock ravine Áhusgårsså. The ravine was formed when the inland ice melted and water cascaded down from the mountains.
The valley Dievvsavágge is often called one of Sweden’s most beautiful. Along the valley you can hike, borrow a rowing boat, or ski in winter.
A hike up the mountain Giergav gives you views towards both Sarek and the Kebnekaise mountains to the north. Around Giergav lie important reindeer grazing areas and ancient Sámi cultural landscapes.
The mountain Áhkká is visible from almost the entire national park, and the view from its summit is spectacular. The mountain rises on the southern side of the large water reservoir Áhkkájávrre.
There are cultural remains in the national park dating all the way back to the Stone Age. For thousands of years, people have travelled and lived around Stora Sjöfallet/Stuor Muorkke. The oldest traces can be seen in the form of hearths, pitfall traps and bark‑peeled trees. In the 1800s, the great waterfall Stuormuorkkegårttje became a major attraction for early mountain tourists.
