Getting here

Here you’ll find information on how to get to Gotska Sandön National Park.

Gotska Sandön is Sweden’s most remote island in the Baltic Sea. To get here, you need either your own boat or a passenger boat that operates from Nynäshamn on the mainland or Fårösund on the island Gotland.

Take the passenger boat to Gotska Sandön

During summer, passenger boats run from Nynäshamn and Fårösund to Gotska Sandön three times a week. You need to buy your ticket in advance to secure a seat.

The journey takes:

  • Approx. 3 hours and 30 minutes from Nynäshamn
  • Approx. 2 hours and 15 minutes from Fårösund

Travel times may vary depending on wind and weather conditions.

Arriving with your own boat

You are welcome to visit Gotska Sandön with your own boat at any time of year. However, because the island lies far out in the Baltic Sea, you need a seaworthy boat and solid experience of navigating open waters. There is no harbour, so you must anchor offshore on the sheltered side of the island.

Please note:

  • There is a seal protection area at Säludden in the north-east.
  • Anchoring is prohibited at Tärnudden.
