Visit the park

Here you’ll find directions, information about local services, and other useful details to help you prepare for your visit to Ängsö National Park.

At Hemudden and at the natural harbours, you will find information signs about Ängsö National Park. At Hemudden, some of the old buildings from the crofter era have been partly preserved, and the shelter contains an exhibition about Ängsö.

From Hemudden, marked walking trails lead across the island.

Accessibility on Ängsö

Ängsö is a flat island with a network of both larger and smaller paths. Walkways have been built over damp or wet areas, and you can usually walk the island’s paths in ordinary shoes.
In several places, roots and uneven ground cross the paths. When the ground has dried in summer, it is possible to get around with a pushchair on some of the paths.

If you use a wheelchair, it is easiest to disembark at Hemudden. From the passenger boat jetty to a point just beyond the croft, the paths are firm and easier to follow. From here, you can enjoy views over the meadows. The shelter also holds an exhibition about Ängsö that is accessible to wheelchair users. Close by, there is a picnic and fire area and an accessible dry toilet.

If you use a wheelchair, please contact the boat company before your trip to make sure there is an indoor wheelchair space available on your chosen departure.

The seasons in Ängsö National Park

Ängsö is perhaps at its most beautiful in spring and early summer, when the flower displays are at their richest.

In early spring, when the trees are coming into leaf, the woodland floors turn white with blooming wood anemones.

From about mid-May to early June, the orchid Adam and Eve is in flower. At this time, bird’s-eye primrose, ramsons, spring pea and cowslip also bloom. During this period, passenger boats run to the island, and you have the opportunity to book a guided tour of the national park.
